Music

Intent

Music is an important tool as a vehicle for children to express themselves; it can impact the way children think, feel and act. Our Music curriculum ensures children develop descriptive skills in music lessons when learning about how music can represent feelings and emotions. We teach them the disciplined skills, such as recognising pulse and pitch, as well as the appropriate technical vocabulary. We endeavour to broaden the children’s horizons and build their cultural capital, exposing them to a diverse range of musical genres, artists, composers, cultures and historical periods. We aim to build children’s enjoyment in music whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills in music to work with others to compose music and perform for an audience. They use their voices, instruments and technology to create and perform music.
