Fair Access, KCC have released a press release which explains the proposals for this years Kent Test. The proposal is to delay the test by around one month to allow children an opportunity to settle back into school life. To mitigate any disadvantage that this may cause, they are intending to extend preference options from four to six for this year only, to allow parents to name up to two Grammar schools without impacting their other preference options.

More details regarding the proposal can be found at https://kccmediahub.net/proposal-to-delay-kent-test-2020-until-october745 which can also be accessed by clicking on the ‘Read our latest Kent Test update’ on the KCC website.

The proposed delay to the Kent Test by around one month, will mean testing for children in Kent schools will take place on Thursday, October 15 2020.

Please remember if you wish your child to be considered for a Grammar school place you must register them at:

  • https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-places/kent-test#tab-1   Registration opens on 1 June 2020 and closes at midnight on 1 July 2020 for children due to start secondary school in September 2021.

The Kent Test process will also contains the head teacher appeal stage, which enables further consideration to be given to pupils where it is felt their test scores did not reflect their true ability.

  • As I am sure you are aware, the procedure for transfer to Secondary Education is currently due to follow the same pattern as last year. Students will be assessed and receive the result of the test before they have to make their selection of schools on the Secondary Common Application Form. The timings of the process have now been published, and I know you will be providing information to parents on the decision-making process over the coming weeks.
Parents must register for the Kent Test by Wednesday 1st July 2020, whilst the students are still in Year 5. If they do not register for the test, they will not be able to place a grammar school on their SCAF, so it is very important that potential grammar school students are identified and encouraged to register by this date. We are asking parents to register their son for the Dover Boys Test by Friday 10th July 2020. In order to receive confirmation of entry and arrival times for the Dover Boys Test by the end of term 6, application forms must be returned by this date. Late applications will not receive confirmation of entry for the Dover Boys Test until September. Parents should complete the application form, which is available from us directly via the School Office or by download from the school website at: https://www.dovergramboys.kent.sch.uk/1429/admissions-2021-22-intake

  • Under normal circumstances, we would have held our Year 5 open evening this month to allow parents and students to understand the process of applying to DGSB and to see whether they would like the opportunity of a grammar school education.

  • However, given the Covid-19 pandemic, this is not going to be possible this year. Our website (link above) will be where we update parents and carers on what we are able to do to assist them in this process given the current circumstances. If we are able to provide a ‘virtual’ open event, details will be posted on our website. Students registered for the Kent Test will take it on Thursday 10th September, and for those in non-Kent primary schools on Saturday 12th September. Those boys registered for the Dover Boys Test will take it on Saturday 12th September 2020 at DGSB. However, please be aware that circumstances this year may dictate that the date / time of our test changes at relatively short notice. Any changes to dates/times of the Dover Boys’ Test will be posted on our website and parents/carers should check this regularly. The results of the tests will be posted to parents on Thursday 15th October and they must complete their SCAF by Monday 2nd November.
